Not to be confused with Hope, Washington

Madison is a small town in the southern American state of Kentucky. It is where the book First Blood takes place in the summer.


In the film, it was renamed Hope and relocated to Washington state in the winter. Hope was filmed in British Columbia, Canada.


  • Madison could have been named after the real Madison County in central Kentucky.
  • Both the novel and film settings of First Blood are named after presidents. James Madison and George Washington of the novel and film, respectively. 
  • The town that Madison, Kentucky was modeled after was Bellefonte, Pennsylvania.
