The GE M134 Minigun in Rambo: First Blood Part II.
The GE M134 Minigun is a Gatling-style rotary machine gun with six rotating barrels. 'GE' stands for General Electric, which is the company that produced the electrically-run motors that allowed the barrel to spin, cooling them and allowing the machine gun to crank out 7,000 rounds per minute (RPM). Previously, Gatling Guns were manually hand-cranked.
It has only been seen in two of the Rambo films, both times in use on helicopters.
Rambo: First Blood Part II[]
The GE M134 was seen mounted as door guns on UH-1 Soviet helicopters. Banks fired this at Podovsky's mocked-up Aérospatiale Puma helicopter, but John Rambo also was seen automating it remotely during the raid on the prison camp.
Rambo III[]
The GE M134 was seen mounted underneath Colonel Zaysen's Mil MI-24 "Hind" helicopter gunships. The American-made GE M134 was used as a stand-in for Soviet YakB 12.7mm Gatling miniguns, which are thinner and longer and only have four barrels. These are also obviously propane-firing replicas that light bursts of Acetylene gas to make it appear like the weapon is firing and the sound effects were added in during post-production. Another propane-firing weapon is seen in the film as well, the Oerlikon 20mm AA gun, as distinguished when its pilot-light is seen when the gun is not firing.
